2014 Summer Fellowship Program

Eligibility: Extremely competitive. Students must be college juniors, seniors, or graduate students as of April 2014.

Accomplished students from all majors (including math, computer science, business, marketing, communications, etc.) are encouraged to   apply.

The Summer Fellowship Program, the most notable student out-reach effort of IRTS, teaches up-and-coming communicators the realities of the business world  through an expense-paid fellowship, which includes practical experience and career-planning advice. Each year college juniors, seniors and graduate   students are selected nationwide to participate in the nine-week Summer Fellowship Program.

The Program begins with an extensive one-week orientation to broadcasting, cable, advertising, and interactive media. Fellows have a rare opportunity to question industry professionals at panels, lectures, and group discussions. They also take related field trips and learn career planning, networking and interviewing skills by attending industry social functions.

Following this first week, Fellows gain full-time “real world” experience at New York-based media corporations to which each is assigned for the duration of   the nine-week Fellowship. Fellows are then able to reinforce or redefine specific career goals before settling into a permanent job in the electronic media industry.

Requirements Work Hours: Interns must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. The offices are open from 8:00 am – 6:00pm. If you are to receive college credit for the internship, we will work closely with your college or university to set-up an appropriate schedule. We are flexible with schedules due to the importance of a student’s dedication to studies and school activities, but ask that the interns are committed to the schedule agreed upon once the internships begin.

Duration: The duration of the Internship is typically one semester, however we can work with your school’s program requirements. We prefer intern candidates to be available during the Fall/Spring/Summer terms for a 60-90 day project.

Compensation: This company typically does not offer financial compensation for internships at this time. Training on cutting edge marketing software and processes provided.

Internship Opportunity

Juniors and Seniors:

The Governors Communications Office is accepting applications for interns in the areas of communications, public relations, and advance work. Qualified applicants will be accepted from all majors. However, a background in communications, public relations, journalism, or a similar education background is an asset. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in media, public relations and/or politics.

The Communications Office will be accepting applicants for the Spring and Summer of 2014 beginning. Please note that this internship is unpaid. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, compiling daily news clips, drafting press materials, issue research, event planning and media coordination.


• Enrolled in an undergraduate program

• Able to work 10-15 hours per week (20-25 hours per week for summer semester)

• 3.0 or higher GPA

Local Part-Time Position Available


A local service organization is in search for a business student who have clerical/office assistance skills and experience with designing brochures and flyers. This is a 10 hours per week assignment and pays $8.00 per hour. SWU On-Campus Internship Opportunity

An on campus internship position (non-paid) is available for a student who would like to gain valuable experience in planning, organizing, and implementing a student host program for the new SWU Excursion initiative. This marketing initiative is designed to encourage prospective student groups (such as church youth groups) to plan overnight visits to the SWU campus. The position would provide experience setting up a host program (receiving recommendations, recruiting, and managing a host reward system) for the Excursion program and helping to plan guests’ campus experience schedules. Other duties would include helping with campus visitors and visit events for prospective students and other duties as needed within the admissions office that directly impact the recruitment of students.
